Black History Theatre Show: The Leopard and the Drum

Saturday 19th October

This traditional Ashanti Folk Tale from Ghana features songs, live drumming, puppets, dressing up and lots of fun for all the family.

About the story:

Osebo the Leopard has the biggest and loudest drum in the whole of the rain forest. He is the envy of all the other animals but the only problem is  that he won’t  let anyone else have a go on his drum not even Nyame the Sky God.

Who will bring Nyame the Sky God Osebo’s big and loud drum? Will it be the elephant, monkey, snake or tortoise?

Black History Family Music Jam and Disco

Featuring Drum Circle with Christian Joseph Mathurin Master Drumer from Ziloka, Live Music Jam and sing along (You are welcome to bring your own instruments or play ours) and a Black History Disco by  DJ Selekt her from Venture fm 995.

All shows suitable for 3-year-olds and above. Shows can be suitable for the whole school including Juniors.

1. The Story of Anancy and The Bananas

Anancy loves bananas but he hasn’t got any. So off he goes to Linstead market to find some. While he is there he meets his friends the monkeys, the tigers and the elephants who all have lots of bananas. Trickster Anancy is always getting up to mischief, so how does he get his bananas? Yellowbird gives him some wise words of wisdom. Enjoy this interactive story with role play, costumes, music singing and a valuable message.

2. Anancy and Miss River

A Traditional Caribbean tale

Anancy does not know how to share with his friends. However, he does eventually learn a valuable lesson when he befriends the beautiful Miss River. Anancy loves to dance, splash and swim with Miss River but when he invites her to his house for a party he gets even wetter than he bargained for!

£275 exc VAT – 2 artists – the 45-minute show with storytelling, backdrops, props, songs, audience participation and live music.

Half-day and full-day bookings with drumming/drama workshops available.

Suitable for nursery, reception and infants.


3. Boacy Rat

Boacy rat is no ordinary rat. He is the finest gentleman and best dancer in the whole of the Caribbean. But when Boacy Rat meets Brother Cockroach the best drummer in the Caribbean, he is challenged to a competition. With a little help from their friends the audience we have a vote to see which dancing /drumming group gives the best performance.

£275 plus Vat for 2 artists – The 45-minute show with storytelling, backdrops, props, songs audience participation and live music.

Half-day and full-day bookings with extra performances and or drumming workshops available.

Can be suitable for the whole school including Juniors
